Strategy Legend

Player Positions:

Orange dots = Forwards (F1, F2, F3)
Light blue dots = Defensemen (D1, D2)
Dark gray dots = Goalie (G)

Note: In strategies like forechecks, all players are on the same team!

Movement & Actions:

Orange arrows = Player movement / Pressure direction
Green arrows = Passes / Puck movement
Light blue lines = Passing options / Connections
Purple lines = Support lines / Boundaries

Zones & Areas:

Bright orange circles (dotted) = Pressure zones / Key areas
Orange circles (solid) = Coverage zones
Light blue circles = Defensive formation

Hockey Strategies

1-3-1 Power Play (Umbrella)

Classic power play formation with one player at the point, three across the middle, and one net-front presence. Great for puck movement and one-timers.

2-1-2 Power Play (Overload)

Two players up high, one in the middle, and two down low. Creates overload situations on one side of the ice.

2-2 Box Penalty Kill

Four players form a box in the defensive zone. Compact structure that protects the middle and forces shots from outside.

1-3 Diamond Penalty Kill

One forward pressures the puck carrier while three players form a diamond. Active PK system that disrupts passing lanes.

1-2-2 Forecheck

One forward pressures, two support in neutral zone, two defensemen stay back. Balanced aggressive forecheck.

2-1-2 Forecheck (Aggressive)

Two forwards pressure deep, one supports, two defensemen back. High-pressure system for forcing turnovers.

1-4 Neutral Zone Trap

One forechecker, four players form a wall at the blue line. Defensive system that clogs neutral zone.

D-to-D Breakout

Defenseman retrieves puck and passes to partner, who then outlets to forwards. Creates time and space.

Reverse Breakout

Puck goes behind the net and reverses direction. Confuses forecheckers and creates space.

Wheel Breakout

Forward wheels back deep to support, then circles out with speed. Creates momentum through neutral zone.

Left Wing Lock

Left winger drops back to form a 5-man defensive wall in neutral zone. Conservative system that protects against odd-man rushes.

Stretch Pass Breakout

Quick long pass from defense to a forward at the red line. Creates breakaway opportunities and bypasses forecheck.

Offensive Zone Cycle

Possession play down low with puck movement behind the net. Tires out defenders and creates scoring chances.

3-on-3 Overtime Formation

Open ice formation with one forward, one D on each side, and one center. Creates space and speed in overtime.

Collapsed Defensive Zone

All five players collapse tight around the net. Used when protecting a lead or during sustained pressure.

Setup after winning an offensive zone faceoff. Shows quick shot or net-front tip options.
